History

Our history goes back to 1851. However, the modern history of the company began when three companies merge to form a paper, packaging and distribution company.

Five years later, following some major divestments, Buhrmann NV - a pure distribution company - was formed. In 1999 we acquired the international office products company Corporate Express and in subsequent years we divested non-core activities, leading to the current focus on office products and graphic systems.

Nowadays, Corporate Express is one of the world's leading suppliers of office products to businesses and institutions. With our office products activities mainly operating world-wide under the brand name Corporate Express, we have a widespread global proprietary distribution network spanning North America, Europe and Australia.

Over 40% of Corporate Express' global office products and computer supply sales are conducted via eCommerce systems, including customized internet sites.

Our printing systems distribution companies are the largest re-sellers of industry-leading Heidelberg equipment, active in six European countries.

In 2006 the Corporate Express Group generated sales of EUR 6.3 billion, with close to 19,000 employees working from about 350 locations in 20 countries.

Corporate Express NV shares are listed on the stock exchanges of Amsterdam (Euronext: CXP), and as ADRs in New York (NYSE: CXP).
